Will Power: Effective Way To Quit Smoking Or Tobacco Addiction

Smoking becomes passion for our youth now-a-days I guess. I’ve seen, in every college there must be 60-70% students who are addicted to smoking. And most youths start smoking just to give company to their friends. To quit smoking is really a tough task but it is not impossible. Many of you may have tried to abstains from smoking but couldn’t succeed.. Right?? This is due to lack of will power.

Will power is an extremely useful tool for De-addiction from tobacco use or smoking. Without getting into the statistics of tobacco-related deaths, let me remind you that on Titanic with 2200 people aboard sinks everyday in our country, all due to tobacco use.

Perhaps, this is not enough to deter you from tobacco use. You may not be bothered about your health. But think about your family- think about your kids- think about your loved ones and toddlers who have to suffer just because of you.

Primary smoking harms every part of the body, but secondary smoking (tobacco fumes inhaled passively by non-smokers) affects your loved ones. Then there is third-hand smoking. As you leave the house after smoking, the smoke particles get deposited on the floor, the carpet, the curtains, your child toy’s, etc. Now imagine your toddler playing with such a toy and licking it. In the process, the kid ingests dangerous cancer producing elements, which may develop the dreaded disease later in his or her life. And who is responsible for this?? It is you.

As far as hazardous substances are concerned, scientists have listed some 4,000 chemicals in cigarettes. One of them is tar (partially combusted particulate matter produced by burning tobacco).

Tar is toxic and it damages the smoker’s lungs over a period of time through various biochemical and mechanical process. Tar also damages the mouth by rotting and blackening teeth, damaging gums, and desensitizing taste buds. Tar includes a majority of mutagenic and carcinogenic agents found in tobacco smoke. So if a single chemical (out of the 4,000) can cause so much harm, imagine what the remaining must be doing to the body.

Some of the ‘money hungry industries’ have come up with de-addiction option such as nicotine replacement therapy (NRT), electronic cigarettes, etc. I believe, they first make you an addict and then launches these futile products to earn more money.

You may have attended many DE-addiction centers or tried to quit the habit through several other ways, but couldn’t succeed. Do you think this is the right approach?? Do not waste your money and time. The instinct to quit smoking is within you, and it costs nothing. All you require is firm determination.

TRY THESE STEPS TO QUIT SMOKING OR TOBACCO USE:


  • Link your will power to quit the habit to the success of your kids, family health, a promise to god, etc. You can link it to any special occasion or something you believe in.
    Many of us avoid tobacco, smoking or alcohol during Navratris and Ramzan. And we do succeed. So why fall into trap again.. Simply link it to your entire life and quit smoking forever. All you need is will power.
    I am sure that you will succeed and not become prey to quacks or waste hard-earned money on De-addiction products.
  • Avoid those friends and co-workers who used to smoke regularly. Because they will spurs you to have few puff of cigarette for sure.
  • Many people used to smoke during the time when they don’t have any work. They start smoking when they feel bored and lonely. So it is better if you keep yourself busy on your work.

    1. Why use another chemical if you can quit smoking just by your will power?? Nicotine may harm you as every medicine has some side effects. Hope you understand.
